Ravensburg State Park Meetups

Ravensburg State Park Meetups will continue through December! Join us on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month for outdoor fun at our local state park: Ravensburg (physical/GPS address: 2388 Rauchtown Road Jersey Shore PA).

Pack a lunch and dress for the weather. On rainy days we'll meet under the pavilion by the ponds. The bathrooms are open. Hiking, wild-play, free play, ball field, creek-play - it's all here!

We will consistently meet in the far parking lot/main meadow. To get there, turn into the park at the main park sign, take a RIGHT at the T in the road and follow all the way down - you'll see a parking lot down on your right. We will meet in the meadow right near the pond.

Reminder - this is a wild-play opportunity. Please chat with your children beforehand regarding your family policy on wild animals, including snakes, and safe water play. We ask that the children do NOT play on the far side of the creek, as large trucks regularly travel that route.

Summer 2020 Update

SUMMER MEETUPS 🌞

Dear Members,

As our region begins to open up again, we are beginning to plan meetups and activities for local home educating families. At present, we are going to change our venue from James Short Park in Loyalsock to Ravensburg State Park in Rauchtown/Jersey Shore. This park has clean bathrooms, a picnic area, and a nice creek area for the children to play in.

We consider this a 'wild play' type setting - no playground or equipment, and the area may not have 360 degree visibility of your child. There is an open pond that is not fenced in. Please keep all of this in mind when you plan to come.

Please plan to pack in snacks, drinks, hand sanitizer, towels etc - and pack out your own garbage.

Please remind your child(ren) to act kindly and with respect at all times towards others. In a wild-play situation, it is important that the safety of others is considered. Parents with children that are unable to treat others with respect and kindness, and/or who put others at risk may be asked to leave.

We will consistently meet in the far parking lot/main meadow. To get there, turn into the park at the main park sign, take a RIGHT at the T in the road and follow all the way down - you'll see a parking lot down on your right. We will meet in the meadow right near the pond.

Please remind your children that this a state park, not a playground. There will be other hikers, picnic-ers, cars, and children. There should be no playing in the road or parking lots. Please do NOT park along the highway and walk over the bridge into the park - we do not want children becoming confused and wandering into the highway. It is regularly traveled by large tractor trailers and stone trucks.

Lastly, while LCCHEA is hosting these meetups, you attend at your own risk. We do not assume any responsibility for the safety of your child, you, or your belongings at our meetups. By attending, you agree to hold LCCHEA and its administrators harmless in any situation that may result from attending a meetup.

If you would like to receive notification of our upcoming meetup dates, please send us an email and request to receive the list of dates/times.

Best wishes on a FUN and safe summer!

Blessings,

A Message for our Members:

March 12, 2020

Dear LCCHEA Members,

As you’ve no doubt heard, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to have an increased impact on communities throughout the nation. While we currently do not have active cases in Lycoming or Clinton counties, we feel it’s prudent and responsible to practice the 'social distancing' recommended by the CDC. To that end, we have cancelled our April Kaos Fun Zone Meetup.

While we have hopes that we will be able to begin our park meetups in May, we will wait until mid-April to evaluate the health landscape, taking into consideration recommendations from the CDC, local authorities, and regional health experts. Please check for updates here on our website, Facebook page, or public community group on Facebook.

We wish you all a healthy, safe, fun spring season and look forward to seeing you soon.

Blessings,

Rosalyn English
